What Are Quakers?
A Christian Faith Centered on Listening to That of God Within You
Quakers, also known as the Religious Society of Friends, are Christians who seek to follow Jesus Christ in everyday life. We believe God speaks to people today and invites us into a direct relationship with Him.
Quakers value simplicity, integrity, peace, equality, community, and service. We believe every person is loved by God and has worth and dignity.
We believe that there is “that of God in everyone,” meaning every person carries an inner presence of God that gives them inherent worth, dignity, and the capacity to know and respond to God’s guidance.
What Makes Quakers Different?
Quakers place a strong emphasis on listening for God's guidance.
Rather than relying only on dogma, sacraments, or creeds, we encourage each person to seek God's leading through prayer, worship, Scripture, and the practice of quiet listening in His presence.
This doesn't mean we worship alone. We gather together to support one another, discern God's will, and grow in faith.
What Happens in a Quaker Meeting?
We Gather to Worship
While some Quaker services include times for sermons, songs, and extras, the heart of Quaker worship lies in the silence.
Quaker gatherings spend time in stillness, listening for God's guidance. During worship, anyone who feels led by God may share a message or testimony.
The silence is not empty, it is a time of prayerful listening and openness to God's presence.
